I’m always in the area by Gnarly Barley and I’ve passed this place so many times, but have never gone in. It’s literally a tiny shack on Orange Ave that looks like suspect things happen within its doors. I’m so glad a friend suggested the place and that we headed over for lunch. Although I was apprehensive, I’m always done for an adventure so I decided to give it a shot.
There’s a sizable beer menu that I’m sure people can appreciate, but I was there for the food! I was in the mood for a sandwich the day I went, and when I checked out the menu one sandwich immediately caught my eye, the Grown Up Grilled Cheese. It was a pressed sandwich packed with cheddar, swiss, goat cheese, bacon, apple, tomato, and dressing.
My order arrived with a side of kettle cooked chips and I didn’t wait before trying out the sandwich. It was everything I hoped for. I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this before (or 50 times before) but I love sweet and savory or sweet and salty. This sandwich was a perfect blend of everything. The bacon was crispy and salty, the apple had a nice crunch and was slightly sweet, the cheeses were simultaneously sharp and creamy, the bread was hearty and the perfect vehicle for everything contained within.
I started the meal ambitious but tapped out after only half the sandwich. It was amazing though! I’m eager to go back and explore more of the menu. They know what they’re doing here, and I appreciate it! If you try it, let me know! I want to hear your comments my loves!
