So thanks to an impromptu business trip to St. Louis, I found myself with a free 4 hours to explore the city. I was so thankful because I’d never been there, but my immediate thoughts drifted to food and where to find the best of it.

After asking some locals for suggestions, I began my journey to a place called Adam’s Smokehouse. It was recommended by several people, and I knew I had to have it. How can you go to St. Louis and not get BBQ?!

I would like to say first of all that St. Louis is one of the nicest places I’ve ever been to. I suppose it’s a Midwestern thing, but everyone I ran into was friendly, kind, and willing to offer a helping hand. Adam’s was right in line with that Midwestern friendliness.

I entered the place ready to eat. After consulting with the man behind the counter, I settled on ribs (of course!), potato salad, and coleslaw. Fairly quickly my food arrived. There were an assortment of sauces to try and I decided to just go for them all. I grabbed a rib, decided on their signature cranberry cayenne sauce, and took a huge bite.

The ribs were even better than I expected. They were tender and juicy, but didn’t just fall apart. They had a wonderfully smoky flavor and the sauce was the perfect ¬†compliment to the meat. The sides were ok. Actually I’m sure they were quite good, but I started with the ribs and they were the huge selling point to the meal.

I left Adam’s wonderfully satisfied and with a huge jar of cranberry cayenne to join me on all my BBQ adventures.
