McGuires is one of those infamous local establishments that you’re kind of obliged to check out to see what all the hype is about. When I mentioned to people that I was going to Pensacola, everyone said, “you gotta go to McGuires!” Point taken, I came, I saw, I couldn’t conquer. But more about that later.

As per usual, I was in a new city and wanted to hit up local eats. Recommendations are always a good place to start and even the hotel staff recommended checking out McGuires. My family and I headed over for a late dinner and the place was packed. I was a little worried because some restaurants let service slip when it’s crazy, but that wasn’t the case here.

We got settled in to a booth and the server was highly attentive to everything from drinks, to the appetizer bread we got, to our meal and dessert. I haven’t had such good service in a while. The one thing I immediately loved about the place, other than the service, was the free bread! I’m a sucker for any free add-ons to a meal. It was an Irish rye bread, or something of the sort, and came with a delicious fresh butter. I had to hold myself back from consuming the whole loaf!

After glancing through the menu, I decided to order the brewer’s sausage plate that was essentially a world tour of sausage (insert dirty jokes here haha). When it got to my table, I honestly thought it was a joke. The picture doesn’t do justice to how much food was on the plate. To put it in perspective, the largest one was over a foot long! I ate an entire meal without it even looking like I touched the plate!

While quantity is good, quality is also important. I can safely say that McGuires won that as well. I tried a piece of each meat and in their own way, each one had wonderful flavoring and texture. I also loved the sides of sauerkraut and warm potato salad. Everything about this meal was comforting and delicious. I ate the leftovers for several meals after too, so it’s another win!

Like the food wasn’t filling enough, we splurged and ordered bread pudding for dessert. They describe it as having a strong whiskey sauce on it and they weren’t joking! This dessert was decadent and wonderful though. The pudding was perfect and the sauce was a great touch, even if I did leave feeling a little light-headed.

If you’re in Pensacola, check this place out. It lives up to the hype and will be an experience you won’t want to miss!
