I love coffee. That statement is already an understatement. I more than love coffee and whenever I travel I seek out the best of the best so I can compare notes. I woke up on a bright but cold morning and knew I needed a delicious cup of coffee to perk me up. No run-of-the-mill hotel coffee was going to do, so I searched a little and found The Drowsy Poet.
They had a pretty extensive menu, but I decided on a drink called the Poe. It was a latte flavored with dark chocolate and raspberry.I was slightly peckish, so I also got some toast with cheese and jam.
Let’s start with the coffee. I have very high standards and I’m not afraid to admit it. If you’re a coffee house, you should be able to make good coffee, it’s your specialty! So how did The Drowsy Poet do? Spectacularly! The coffee was rich and tasted wonderful. The chocolate and raspberry didn’t overtake the flavor of the coffee itself and it was a perfect combination. I honestly wish this place was closer to home because I would frequent it as often as I could.
Now on to the food. I know it doesn’t sound amazing, or life changing, but my toast was so much more than I could have imagined. The bread was thick and hearty and organically made from a local baker. It was topped with brie ( a personal favorite of mine!) and a local lavender jam. The jam wasn’t overpowering and the floral flavor of it worked well with the creaminess of the cheese.
To top it all off, the location we went to was in a Marina and we were able to sit on the balcony and look out over the water. It was the perfect way to sit and enjoy a delicious meal.
I will have fond memories of this place and will definitely check it out again if I find myself in town.
