Maybe donuts are becoming the theme of this trip? I’m not quite sure, but I’m not even mad about it. Because eating donuts on the road wasn’t enough, we got to Austin and the first thing we did was eat at a restaurant that specializes in donuts! I think my friends know the way to my heart.

I knew I would like Gourdough’s the moment I walked in. It was hipstery and cute, but very laid-back. The menu had so many amazing items on it, and some had witty innuendos as names, which made them all the more appealing.

After laboring over what to order, I settled on their version of chicken and waffles. It was a donut topped with fried chicken and a sweet cinnamon glaze. When it got to the table, I took a bite and honestly had a moment with this meal. Each element of the dish was perfect. The donut was delicious. The chicken was fried to perfection and was full of flavor. The glaze on top provided a nice pop of sweet flavor to offset the chicken.

I barely made it through the chicken because there was so much food, but vacations are about being a glutton, so of course I ordered dessert too! Although all the desserts sounded delicious, one in particular caught my attention: The Dirty Harry. It was mini donut holes filled with coconut cream and topped with chocolate sauce and fresh coconut.

The picture makes it appear a mess, but the flavors were wonderful! The donuts had a crispness to them that was unlike anything I’ve had before. Nothing was too sweet, so it all balanced out really well and made for a delicious treat! Austin, if we ever meet again, you can bet Gourdough’s will be on the agenda!
