K Restaurant

Location: 1710 Edgewater Drive Orlando, FL 32804

A close friend of mine was having a birthday and lucky for all of us, it coincided with Magical Dining Month (MDM). For those not familiar, MDM is a month long thing where a lot of the higher end restaurants have a prix fix menu that allows you to sample restaurants at a reasonable price. That is how K Restaurant came into my life.

I don’t have too much of an issue paying for good food, but I am also not a millionaire and need to be quite selective about my money. So MDM was the perfect opportunity to try something new and support a local business.

As part of the MDM, I was able to choose from a starter, entree, and dessert. My starter was a charcuterie board with various meats, cheeses, and pickled items. If you know me, you understand that this is all I need to survive in life. I could eat this every single day and never grow tired of it.

I thought that my starter would be the high point of my meal, but I was insanely wrong. my main meal was steak and potatoes. Yes, it sounds plain, but when something is simple, it has to be done right, and this was done absolutely right. The steak was cooked to perfection and was so tender and melt in your mouth. The potatoes and the gravy on the meat were the perfect complement to the steak.

But it wasn’t over. I still had dessert to get through as well. I ordered a peach cobbler, mostly because I am a sucker for fruity desserts. It was glorious and exactly what I needed to end my amazing meal.

Not only was the food amazing, but the wonderful thing about this place is that it is located in an old home converted into a restaurant. So there are separate rooms, a smaller more intimate atmosphere, and pockets of conversation happening all around. It was the perfect complement to the meal.

Cafe 906

Location: 4932 New Broad Street Orlando, FL 32814

Sooooo…it’s been a while. A new job has been keeping me extremely busy, but I’m getting back into the swing of things! Positives include a much shorter commute and plenty of new food options to try. In getting to know my new co-workers, we went out for a lunch and decided to try Cafe 906, a French cafe, on the suggestion of one of my co-workers, who was born and raised in France.

I can honestly say that French is not my strong suit. I indulge in a croissant here and there, I eat french fries (does that even count?!), but aside from that, I’m in the dark. On the recommendation from said co-worker, I decided to try the spinach and mushroom crepe. A crepe is like an eggy, thin pancake that can be savory or sweet. Obviously I went the savory route and also had my crepe loaded with cheesy goodness.

We sat outside to enjoy the nice weather and lake view and not long after our food arrived. I dug into it and it was heavenly. The crepe was thin but soft and delicious. It was stuffed to the brim with all of the delicious ingredients and they all complemented each other so well. It’s not something I would have typically chosen, but I’m so glad that I gave it a try. I foresee a lot of crepes from Cafe 906 in my future.

Additional side note: Their coffee and desserts are also delicious. You can’t choose anything bad there!
