Houston Edition: Rudy’s Country Store and Bar-BQ

Location: Multiple locations

How could I possibly go to Texas and not indulge in BBQ at least once!? After heading back to Houston before the flight home, BBQ was on the agenda. Lucky for me Rudy’s is a local chain of BBQ restaurants that my friend decided to bring us to.

I should put out there now, if I haven’t already, that I’m not the biggest fan of BBQ. I’m not sure why exactly, it’s just usually not a food I go out of my way to eat or try. Everyone has preferences right? Continue reading “Houston Edition: Rudy’s Country Store and Bar-BQ”

Big John’s Rockin BBQ

Location: 324 Broadway Kissimmee, FL 34741

I’ve lived in the South for a long time now. I’m not saying that makes me a BBQ expert, but I know good food, and that includes good BBQ. I’m very picky about BBQ because it’s not my favorite thing in the world, so if you’ve won me over, you’re doing it right!

I headed to Big John’s on the recommendation of a friend who was craving eating here on an almost daily basis at that point. I needed to know what all the hype was about. I walked in and the smell of smoked meat overpowered me, it was wonderful. After talking to the friendly staff for a few minutes, I decided on a sampler platter so I could try everything! So thanks to an impromptu business trip to St. Louis, I found myself with a free 4 hours to explore the city. I was so thankful because I’d never been there, but my immediate thoughts drifted to food and where to find the best of it.

After asking some locals for suggestions, I began my journey to a place called Adam’s Smokehouse. It was recommended by several people, and I knew I had to have it. How can you go to St. Louis and not get BBQ?! Continue reading “St. Louis Edition: Adam’s Smokehouse”

Tako Cheena

Location: 932 North Mills Avenue Orlando, FL 32803

My love of Tako Cheena has spanned the years, and I can honestly say I never lose interest! Tako Cheena and I are in it for the long haul.

I had a friend from out of town visiting so I wanted to take her somewhere memorable and truly unique to Orlando. Tako Cheena was the first thing that came to mind. It’s a small location and usually always packed, but the food has never failed me. Continue reading “Tako Cheena”

Pig Floyd’s Urban Barbakoa

Location: 1326 North Mills Avenue Orlando, FL 32803

I took the trip across town to Pig Floyd’s with my roommate and as usual, the place was buzzing. Not only is the food good here, but there’s a nice atmosphere. The weather in Florida has been nice so sitting in the outdoor patio they have was a perfect place to eat! I know I’m gushing about this place, I just can’t help it! Red Eye Bar and Grill

So, I have this list and it started small but has been growing and growing. I started with a few restaurants I wanted to check out, then I had so many I put them by cuisine so I could choose depending on my mood. Then I had to sort if by geographical location. Checking this place out was a result of that.

I was with my roomie at a farmer’s market off the beaten path (Winter Garden to be exact!) and she and I were getting hungry. She suggested Red Eye Bar and Grill and it’s been on my watch list for a while so I was excited that we were finally on that side of town! Continue reading “Red Eye Bar and Grill”

Oh! My SamGyupSal Korean BBQ

To continue my mini-series on my Atlanta food adventures I had the opportunity to eat some yummy Korean BBQ, which is one of my favorite things ever! Late Sunday night, a small group of my friends and I made our way to Oh! My. They kept sounding so concerned about it only being open for another three hours, and after starting our meal I understood why.

There’s so much to talk about here, but I’ll try to break it down a little for those that haven’t had BBQ like this before. Essentially the meal consisted of grilled meat and vegetables eaten with various dipping sauces or side dishes. Below is a list of all the items included with our lengthy meal. Continue reading “Oh!
