Austin Edition: Chi’lantro BBQ

Location: 1509 S Lamar Blvd Austin, TX 78704

Oh Korean food how I love thee! Central Florida has a severe lack of Korean food, especially modern or fusion Korean food at that. While doing my Texas food research I stumbled across Chi’lantro and knew it was a must. How did they win me over? Two words: Kimchi Fries!!

¬†After getting to Chi’lantro I got a little trigger happy on the ordering. I excitedly ordering the fries, but I also ordered kimchi fried rice balls and a beef rice bowl. I was with my friend and we decided to head to Mt Bonnell to take in the view with our meal. We opened everything and couldn’t wait to pig out! Continue reading “Austin Edition: Chi’lantro BBQ”

New Orleans Edition: Pho Nola

Location: 3320 Transcontinental Drive New Orleans, LA 70119

I know what you may be thinking; you went all the way to New Orleans for Vietnamese food!? Why yes I did! Most of the trip to New Orleans was cold, rainy, and generally miserable weather. With it being like that outside, my first instinct was to find soup, any soup. Vietnamese food is like comfort food to me, so it seemed like a natural choice to check out a local Vietnamese restaurant.

After a little searching, my family and I settled on Pho Nola and I was immediately happy with the decision. The menu was extensive (they had boba too!) and unlike a lot of Vietnamese places, it seemed to be a little more modern in taste.¬† Continue reading “New Orleans Edition: Pho Nola”

Cafe Pinar

Location: 730 Sand Lake Road #30 Orlando, FL, 32809

Oh Cafe Pinar, what a delightful surprise you were! My roommate suggested trying this place, and since I was in no particular food mood (meaning I was hungry and would eat anything and everything), we headed to Cafe Pinar.

It was lunch on a Saturday so the place was pretty packed but we were able to get seated at a booth and were eager to order. Passing all the tables on the way, literally everything that people had looked good. When we sat down to look at the menu, everything sounded great. We labored for a while trying to narrow down our options, but finally I settled on Roja Vieja with plantains, black beans, and rice and my roommate got the Cuban sandwich.

Kombo Kitchen

Location: 3316 S. Dale Mabry Highway Tampa, FL, 33629

Located in an obscure former-house off of Dale Mabry, Kombo Kitchen is full of delightfully pleasant treats once you go in. I happened upon this place one day while searching for a good Asian lunch option and now it’s my go-to for Thai food.

My family were in town for the afternoon last week, and I knew I wanted to take them here. We settled on two dishes, one was Beef Pad Se Ew and the other was Crab Fried Rice. I don’t think there’s been a time I’ve come to Kombo Kitchen and not ordered crab fried rice! I love it! Continue reading “Kombo Kitchen”

Mediterranean Deli

Location: 981 Fairbanks Ave Orlando, FL 32804

Hello all!

It’s been a busy food adventures week for me! I thought I better start sharing the location of the places I actually go so if you’re from around here, or just visiting, you know where to go!

A friend brought me to his side of town and we decided to check out a favorite of his, Mediterranean Deli. It’s a small location found in a strip mall, but when we walked in we were greeted with a friendly “Hello Friends!” and the delightful smell of sizzling meat! I was beyond excited because I love good, fresh Greek food any day! Continue reading “Mediterranean Deli”

Oh! My SamGyupSal Korean BBQ

To continue my mini-series on my Atlanta food adventures I had the opportunity to eat some yummy Korean BBQ, which is one of my favorite things ever! Late Sunday night, a small group of my friends and I made our way to Oh! My. They kept sounding so concerned about it only being open for another three hours, and after starting our meal I understood why.

There’s so much to talk about here, but I’ll try to break it down a little for those that haven’t had BBQ like this before. Essentially the meal consisted of grilled meat and vegetables eaten with various dipping sauces or side dishes. Below is a list of all the items included with our lengthy meal. Continue reading “Oh! Korean Food Adventure

Not only do I love to eat, but I love cooking too. When I was young, my dad would cook dinner and I would be his assistant, allowed to do small tasks like cutting veggies or stirring something simmering on the stove.

Now, I find cooking cathartic. If I’ve had a stressful week it’s nice to come home and just cook it out. It’s also an adventure in and of itself. Last week I decided to take a risk and work with a cuisine I love but am not too familiar with cooking…Korean food. It was a pretty ambitious effort, but I was ready to take on the task.
