K Restaurant

Location: 1710 Edgewater Drive Orlando, FL 32804

A close friend of mine was having a birthday and lucky for all of us, it coincided with Magical Dining Month (MDM). For those not familiar, MDM is a month long thing where a lot of the higher end restaurants have a prix fix menu that allows you to sample restaurants at a reasonable price. That is how K Restaurant came into my life.

I don’t have too much of an issue paying for good food, but I am also not a millionaire and need to be quite selective about my money. So MDM was the perfect opportunity to try something new and support a local business.

As part of the MDM, I was able to choose from a starter, entree, and dessert. My starter was a charcuterie board with various meats, cheeses, and pickled items. If you know me, you understand that this is all I need to survive in life. I could eat this every single day and never grow tired of it.

I thought that my starter would be the high point of my meal, but I was insanely wrong. my main meal was steak and potatoes. Yes, it sounds plain, but when something is simple, it has to be done right, and this was done absolutely right. The steak was cooked to perfection and was so tender and melt in your mouth. The potatoes and the gravy on the meat were the perfect complement to the steak.

But it wasn’t over. I still had dessert to get through as well. I ordered a peach cobbler, mostly because I am a sucker for fruity desserts. It was glorious and exactly what I needed to end my amazing meal.

Not only was the food amazing, but the wonderful thing about this place is that it is located in an old home converted into a restaurant. So there are separate rooms, a smaller more intimate atmosphere, and pockets of conversation happening all around. It was the perfect complement to the meal.

Houston Edition: Shipley’s Do-Nuts

This is not the first time, nor will it be the last time, that I blog about donuts. I mean, who doesn’t love donuts?! They’re perfect pillows of doughy, sweet goodness! Texas definitely didn’t fail to provide me with delicious donut options when I visited.

After deciding to take a last-minute trip to Texas to visit friends and go on food adventures, we picked up some Shipley’s before we headed out on a road trip to Austin. Not only does Shipley’s do donuts, they also have these delicious creations called kolaches (found all over Texas!) which are soft, fresh buns filled with smoked sausage and cheese.  Continue reading “Houston Edition: Shipley’s Do-Nuts”

New Orleans Edition: Central Grocery

Location: 923 Decatur Street New Orleans, LA 70116

I’m not one for tourist traps or eating at the most famous places when travelling. I used to do that and found it overrated and that as a place gets more famous, the food becomes subpar. That’s what made going to Central Grocery a risk for me. EVERYONE told me I had to go while I was in New Orleans and it was only coincidence (as in I was hungry and close to the place and nothing else was open) that brought Central Grocery and I together. The Whiskey

Location: 7563 Sand Lake Road Orlando, Florida 32819

The Whiskey is a place I had been scoping out for a while. Orlando Weekly, a local paper that highlights local restaurants, events, companies, etc., had put together a list of new restaurant openings, and because of it’s close proximity to where I live, The Whiskey caught my eye.

I was checking out the menu online when my eyes passed over trigger words that made my mouth water…wagyu beef, pork belly, garlic aioli. Was it possible that all of my deliciously favorite flavors could all be found in perfect trifecta on one burger?! Continue reading “The Whiskey”

Yellow Dog Eats

Location: 1236 Hempel Avenue Windermere, Florida 34786

Yellow Dog Eats and I go way back. I stumbled across this place in my endless online searching for the best food in Central Florida. Admittedly, this place is off the beaten track, but isn’t that where some of the best food is found?!

This eclectic (trust me, when you go, you’ll see!) restaurant has a menu that matches its decor. Nothing here is standard, but everything is delicious. My latest visit was no exception. Continue reading “Yellow Dog Eats”

Gnarly Barley

Location: 7431 S. Orange Ave Orlando, FL 32809

I’m always in the area by Gnarly Barley and I’ve passed this place so many times, but have never gone in. It’s literally a tiny shack on Orange Ave that looks like suspect things happen within its doors. I’m so glad a friend suggested the place and that we headed over for lunch. Although I was apprehensive, I’m always done for an adventure so I decided to give it a shot. Continue reading “Gnarly Barley”

Caffe Positano

Location: 1665 WP Ball Blvd Sanford, FL 32771

Pizza is a staple in my life. I’m pretty sure it is in a lot of people’s lives. I mean it’s crust, sauce, cheese, toppings. It’s got all your food pyramid basics covered in one easy to eat meal.

I’ve had a lot of pizza in my time. Some good, some not so great, some downright awful. I actually cringe thinking about pizza I’ve had with depressing toppings, stingy amounts of cheese, and cardboard crust. Caffe Positano had none of that! This is definitely one of the best pizza experiences I’ve had! Continue reading “Caffe Positano”

Teak Neighborhood Grill

Location: 6400 Times Square Avenue Orlando, Florida 32835

One of my nearest and dearest friends is moving this weekend for work, so we recently had one last brunch together to celebrate before he headed off. We decided on what has now become to us, an old favorite.

Last year, I stumbled upon Teak. Unassuming, and relatively hidden in a residential part of Orlando, Teak Neighborhood Grill has some of the best sandwiches, burgers, and food in general that I’ve experienced in a while. I’ve never been disappointed going to Teak and in my opinion, it’s worth the drive to enjoy what this place has to offer! Continue reading “Teak Neighborhood Grill”

Mellow Mushroom

After a fun New Year’s Eve, my friends and I wanted to venture out for some delicious carbs. What better than pizza right?! All your essential food groups in one place! But Orlando has so many choices and options for this delightful treat. After some quick research we decided to try out Mellow Mushroom, a small chain throughout the country, but one with pretty decent reviews. Continue reading “Mellow Mushroom”
