Tampa Edition: PAO Cafe

Location: 14837 N. Florida Avenue Tampa, Florida 33613

Growing up with a Filipino mom, meat and rice was the common choice for lunch or dinner. So when I think of comfort food, that’s what I pretty much always trend towards. For how delicious Filipino food is, it’s highly underrated. It’s hard to find it in Florida so when I stumble upon it, I have to give it a try! I had heard about Pao from friends before, so when I found myself in the area, I knew I needed to stop in.

Sofrito Latin Cafe

Ever wake up with a craving that just HAS to be satisfied?! The day I ventured to Sofrito was one of those days. I needed some Latin food in my life, and lucky for me, I knew just the place I wanted to go! I’d been eyeing Sofrito for a while. It was relatively new, located close to home, and was cute (always a plus)!  Continue reading “Sofrito Latin Cafe”

Tampa Edition: South Pacific Grill

Location: SPG on Facebook

Oh South Pacific Grill. You were one of those enigmatic food trucks that would always slip from my grasp when I got too close. For over a year now, I’ve been wanting to try this food truck, and one happy weekday everything aligned and I found myself standing in front of my dream.  Continue reading “Tampa Edition: South Pacific Grill”

Austin Edition: Chi’lantro BBQ

Location: 1509 S Lamar Blvd Austin, TX 78704

Oh Korean food how I love thee! Central Florida has a severe lack of Korean food, especially modern or fusion Korean food at that. While doing my Texas food research I stumbled across Chi’lantro and knew it was a must. How did they win me over? Two words: Kimchi Fries!!

After getting to Chi’lantro I got a little trigger happy on the ordering. I excitedly ordering the fries, but I also ordered kimchi fried rice balls and a beef rice bowl. I was with my friend and we decided to head to Mt Bonnell to take in the view with our meal. We opened everything and couldn’t wait to pig out! Continue reading “Austin Edition: Chi’lantro BBQ”

Shin Jung Korean Restaurant

Location: 1638 East Colonial Drive Orlando, FL 32803

On a dark and stormy Sunday, I ventured out with a friend for some Asian comfort food. Lately, my go to has been Korean and to be honest, Orlando is pretty limited in its Korean food options. I’d heard about Shin Jung from others and decided to give it a shot.

When I sat down and looked over the menu, I decided on my go to dish when I eat Korean, Dol Sot BiBim Bop. Essentially it’s a heated stone pot with rice, pickled vegetables, and beef all topped with a fried egg. It’s such a simple dish but it’s so delicious! Continue reading “Shin Jung Korean Restaurant”

Cafe Pinar

Location: 730 Sand Lake Road #30 Orlando, FL, 32809

Oh Cafe Pinar, what a delightful surprise you were! My roommate suggested trying this place, and since I was in no particular food mood (meaning I was hungry and would eat anything and everything), we headed to Cafe Pinar.

It was lunch on a Saturday so the place was pretty packed but we were able to get seated at a booth and were eager to order. Passing all the tables on the way, literally everything that people had looked good. When we sat down to look at the menu, everything sounded great. We labored for a while trying to narrow down our options, but finally I settled on Roja Vieja with plantains, black beans, and rice and my roommate got the Cuban sandwich.

Kombo Kitchen

Location: 3316 S. Dale Mabry Highway Tampa, FL, 33629

Located in an obscure former-house off of Dale Mabry, Kombo Kitchen is full of delightfully pleasant treats once you go in. I happened upon this place one day while searching for a good Asian lunch option and now it’s my go-to for Thai food.

My family were in town for the afternoon last week, and I knew I wanted to take them here. We settled on two dishes, one was Beef Pad Se Ew and the other was Crab Fried Rice. I don’t think there’s been a time I’ve come to Kombo Kitchen and not ordered crab fried rice! I love it! Continue reading “Kombo Kitchen”

Korean Food Adventure

Not only do I love to eat, but I love cooking too. When I was young, my dad would cook dinner and I would be his assistant, allowed to do small tasks like cutting veggies or stirring something simmering on the stove.

Now, I find cooking cathartic. If I’ve had a stressful week it’s nice to come home and just cook it out. It’s also an adventure in and of itself. Last week I decided to take a risk and work with a cuisine I love but am not too familiar with cooking…Korean food. It was a pretty ambitious effort, but I was ready to take on the task.
